Dear Lazywebs
I need to get some photos printed so my aunt (who hasn't discovered the intarwebs, and isn't likely to, since she's over 80) and I figure that I should upload them to someone who can courier them to her.
The problem for me is that she lives in the United States, a country I have rarely visited and know very little about. Perhaps someone reading my blog does though, so if you know the best way to get photos delivered to someone in Philadelphia who doesn't have internets, please send me your recommendations.
Thanks,
Andrew McMillan.
Try an online printing service?
Hi Andrew,
I print photos for my family in Peru using an online printing bureau (Kodak in my case). They, like digitalmax.co.nz will take you photos, print them, and hold/post them to "you". I just give them the address I want them sent.
Works great even to get photos to my mum in Nelson, she picks them up from the local pharmacy (yes I'm cheap).
Try HP, Kodak, or any of the other US printing labs. Pick your favourite photo hosting site and look at their (inevitable) partners for printing.
My other suggestion, although they're still a bit expensive, is to buy a digital photo frame on ebay/amazon and post her a memory card. I'm going to do this for my mum (and in-laws) as soon as the prices become more reasonable -- a 1G card holds hundreds of photos and a 10 inch LCD screen with constantly rotating photos of your family provides hours of enjoyment for anyone (in the family).
The other advantage of the photo frame is that you can send new memory cards and rotate the old one although at $15 for 1G of SD it's getting cheaper to just buy a new one.
HTH,
Bruce
iPhoto or Picasa?
I'm not sure if you can send photos internationally or not using iPhoto, but here in the US, if you have a mac iPhoto has a great deal with Kodak where you can order them right out of the application. I think google's picasa does the same thing.
I know people who use shutterfly.com, ritzcamera.com, and walmart.com as well, all will print and ship locally, some (I think Ritz) even let you come in and pick them up just like you would standard film prints.

Completely off topic, but I'm keen to use one of your images of the Tukituki river on a postcard - how do I contact you for permission?
