Fore Abbey

Fore Abbey

January 16, 2016
We drove out to Fore Abbey today, which is somewhat beyond our normal weekend peregrinations, but Heather was pleased with a stop at the wool shop in Trim, and Hazel was pleased to go out to lunch somewhere (Castlepollard, as it turned out, which proved quite satisfactory).  So with that bribery agreed I was allowed to wander around in the slightly snowy landscape taking photos of the Abbey. Founded in 630, it seems that within 35 years there were over 300 monks living here, and the complex itself is quite sizable, though very much a ruin, and indeed these ruins actually date from constructions in the 15th century for the most part.
