The Swinging Train

The Swinging Train

March 8, 2011
A few days ago +Peter Müller posted a lovely night shot of the Schwebebahn in Wuppertal, reminding me of my couple of hours there back in 2011. It's over 110 years old now (it started operating on 1 March 1901), and still operates as a commuter train! I was lucky enough to have someone guide me to purchase a zone-wide ticket on Deutschebahn for the day, so I was able to travel to Wuppertal on the regional trains, then through the city on the schwebebahn (as many times as I liked, I guess, but I only went from one end to the other) and then I continued on the regional trains eventually ending the day in Aachen.  Very rushed, but when I go back to Germany I will certainly make sure I do this again. For much of the route it travels over the river, and then there is a long stretch above the street, with trucks zooming by just below and seemingly scary-close.
