I think this is one of my mostest favouritest trees in New Zealand

Every time I drive over the Rimutaka Hill road, I see this tree and I wonder how tall it is, and I marvel at the contrast between it and everything else around it.  And then I drive around the corner and we're zipping along the bottom of the valley at long last and a few wiggles later we're in Featherston. I mentioned this peculiar affection to a friend last year and discovered that he felt similarly about it, so perhaps I'm not as weird as I thought I was! Unfortunately this photo doesn't really capture the magic, but at least now I have found somewhere to stop the car which does not involve 200m of walking along a busy highway with no shoulder.
