Earlier today, I received the following message from my dear mother, +Carol Carstensen: "Here's the photographic evidence of my being arrested for the crime of singing in the state capitol." (see below)
I was surprised by this, not knowing that my mother's singing was a felony, so I pressed for more details. She reports that Wisconsin's governor has decided that groups of 20 or more must have a permit to gather in the Capitol Rotunda -- but the Solidarity Singers have been there every weekday noon hour since March 11.
Apparently, last week the Capitol police began "arresting" some of the singers and issuing them citations. She was '"arrested" and handcuffed today -- and has the citation to prove it. (it's a $200 fine). She plans to request a jury trial.
I'm looking forward to it. :)
