Hi +Niall Murphy, +andrew mcmillan and +Moritz Tolxdorff - this is a post limited to the people I know, working in Google in Dublin.  But feel free to pass on to other relevant people!

So last Saturday, I was at a volunteers' training day for the Yes Equality campaign.  (Yes Equality is an umbrella group made up of Marriage Equality, GLEN and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties).

It was a good and productive day with lots of useful stuff about canvassing, getting the message across, etc., in advance of the Marriage Equality Referendum on May 22nd.

One of the segments was on social media.

They had speakers there from Facebook, and Twitter (and mentioned their Instagram account, too).  But Yes Equality, unfortunately, still don’t have a Google+ presence.

One of the other workshops was on fundraising.  The campaign is very underfunded – but they outlined the reach they could get by buying advertising on Facebook (€100 for 43,000 targeted ads, apparently).

During the presentation from Facebook, someone asked the question about getting free adverts, or a donation, and were met with an embarrassed grin.

This is a huge opportunity for Google, I think.  You’re already in the public eye as a socially conscious company.  Can I suggest you build on that?  I’d like to propose that Google approach Yes Equality and offer them some sponsorship, possibly some direct help, in return for establishing a Google+ presence.

Could be as simple as talking them through setting up a G+ page, and a donation of AdWords credits...
