Last night we went into Ciudad Vieja, but really it was too late, and anything interesting had closed. I certainly did not feel comfortable pulling out my camera and photographing anything.
Our instructions had been that we should walk the length of one particular thoroughfare and then go to a particular seafood restaurant. We deviated, however, and were accosted by some youths who attempted to intimidate us. That freaked us all out so we returned to Plaza Independencia where I finally felt safe enough to use the camera and I took this photo of Artigas statue in front of the once-tallest building in South America.
I think that is the first time I have been harassed in such a way in any city I have visited, but thank goodness there were three of us, including that six-foot Russian guy with a shaved head... :-)
