The Old Mine

Just a little east of Bunmahon in County Waterford, on an exposed stretch of the south coast of Ireland, is this old copper mine.  While this area is called the "Copper Coast" and is a UNESCO Geopark, most copper mining in Ireland was far to the west in Allihies, where it started in the bronze age at around 2000BC.

Also known as Tankardstown, the mine was closed down in the 1870s, and the buildings were substantially damaged when the equipment was removed.

We were staying in Bunmahon for a long weekend on this occasion and this was my first photo of the day, on our way back to Dublin.
