Taranaki

It's quite a hike even to get up to the skifield on Mt. Taranaki, yet some people will go to the summit and back in a day. You can see the path in front of us, heading slightly down into the gully in the foreground, and then all the way back up the other side and out at the middle of the right of this photo.

Of course this was taken in late April, and so it was much too early in the year for there to be much snow. We did walk around there though, and the skifield was covered in this amazingly fine grass, which I guess grows only over the summer, and then gets covered for 6 months of the year. Having never lived anywhere that it snows, I guess this seems weird to me, but is probably normal to many people.
