DC Subway

The subways in Washington DC are wonders of brutalist architecture. I guess those words don't often appear together - brutalism is an underrated style in this day and age, but in a place like Washington it seems more natural. In some ways we seem to expect our governments to build monolithic concrete structures.... or perhaps I am showing my age!

DC is quite unusual in the regularity of the structure of the subways though. They all have these roof panels, and though there are variations in how deep they are, or whether the platform is in the center vs the sides, they are remarkably similar.

But my train is about to arrive - I better get on with things...!
