Hapua
This is a shot looking up at the homestead from down by the lake.
I don't normally post photos of Hapua, because it's someone's private home (no matter how much I love visiting and want to post the pics) but I'm allowed to now because +Peter Fowler is looking for someone to rent it for a year or two while he lives and works in Wellington, so if you're looking to live in a gorgeous piece of New Zealand you should drop him a line.
They just finished renovating it last year with new kitchen/dining and master suite and I think they've managed to keep the best parts of the 100 year old homestead intact. Over the last thirteen years I've watched this transform from a drafty run-down old homestead in unloved and overgrown surroundings into a beautiful warm modern home in a great landscape centred around a lake (complete with island), enormous trees, delightful mossy paths, boardwalk and other relaxing and entertaining areas.
It's about 30 minutes drive from Napier/Hastings.
