Kilkenny Castle

The weather in Ireland has been super-good for the last week, and it's supposed to continue through Wednesday. On Sunday Heather and I left the boys at home and drove down to Kilkenny, which is apparently a significant destination for Hen- and Stag- parties from all over Europe, but also more typical tourists as well.

The castle is very picturesque, and run by the Office of Public Works, with the interior restored with considerable care and the wing on the right in this picture is one enormous art gallery (I'll post an interior shot of it in a few days when I've gone through all my photos). We took the opportunity to renew our OPW card while we were there, because we're bound to visit more than four of their properties in the coming year - excellent value, which we celebrated by also using it at Rathfarnham Castle on the way home.

An excellent spot for a visit on a nice day. After the castle we wanderered around the town for a couple of hours, including a stop for a nice lunch.

This photo is a super-high resolution panorama stitched from four full-size images using the free "Hugin" software.
