Pay attention people! Your children are the future!
Of course, nowadays it actually does record the temperature, because that's exceptionally easy to do, but it's primary function is to record wind speed and direction. Which this dad would have realised, if he'd cared to glance at the detailed displays in the window - or at the larger structure at the top of the pole.
The excessive processing on this is a stylistic choice too, in case anyone is wondering :-)
