Aughnanure Castle
The approach from the carpark alongside this stream is historically representative of the way this castle was frequently approached. Fully navigable from Lough Corrib, and thereby from Galway, the castle was an important outpost.
Unfortunately the interior is not accessible at present until the OPW get some remedial work done, but it is generally in good shape - it has a roof.
We drove there from Galway in about 40 minutes and had a good look around before we carried on to the mine that I posted about a couple of days ago.
