Newry River
It got pretty muggy as we drove north, with the cloud forming around Newry in much the same way as we always used to see it forming over the coastal hills behind Porirua back in New Zealand. Heather thought this was much prettier than without the cloud, and added drama, but I would have been happy with a little less drama, and a bit clearer view of these peninsulas. Maybe on the way back.
We stopped in the Belfast botanical gardens for lunch (another gorgeous greenhouse :-), and a few other short stops, and then the ferry. Unfortunately +P&O Ferries cancelled our sailing without telling us until they directed us onto another ferry which turned out to be going to a different place.
It seems incredible that P&O can deliver us to Cairnryan instead of Troon without (a) telling us they were doing so, and (b) offering some kind of acknowledgement of the inconvenience, like a drink or meal voucher, or even something like free wifi on board. Ultimately it resulted in an extra hour of driving (+ petrol cost, etc) as well as an extra half hour of sitting in the carpark waiting to board the ferry. Once we checked in for the ferry we were in a kind of locked compound too, so no going for a little walk to look at the ruined tower a few hundred metres away either.
We made it to Glasgow in the end, anyway, so that's good, and just had a quick basic meal and Heather and the boys have crashed. I should too :-)
