+LinkedIn endorsements seem to be something of a concern. Really: can they be trusted at all?
Personally when I am presented with an opportunity to endorse someone I try not to just blindly accept what I am offered, and will only actually click it if I know the person has that skill, but I can see from endorsements people have made of me that is not always the case.
For example three people have endorsed me for Python Programming. Flattering, but no. On the other hand I have two endorsements for Java while I have eight for Android, and in this case there is some actual code available for public review.
Eleven for PHP and thirteen for Perl, and while I have tens of thousands of lines and many years of experience writing PHP code - much of it public, my experience coding in Perl is both more limited, and more private.
I think there really needs to be some kind of glossary too: along with 84 people endorsing me for "Open Source", there are 8 more endorsing "Open Source Software" and another 5 for "Free Software".
And in all of it, not a single person has endorsed me for Calendaring. Perhaps I should give up on my free software projects and resign from the Calendaring & Scheduling Consortium steering committee... :-)
