Mist near Carnlough
We drove home on Sunday, the scenic route. First over the hills to the coast, and then down the coast through Glenarm and on down to Belfast. A few interesting detours on the way, which I'll post pictures in due course, but first, coming down to the coast we were shrouded in heavy rain, so while the valleys were beautiful I wasn't going to get out of the car and get the camera all covered in water just to get a bad photo.
Once we got down to the coast it cleared a bit, to a misty drizzle, and I stopped and took some photos of what Ireland so often is: misty and wet. After all it has to get green somehow!
We carried on into Glenarm for a sort of "elevenses" - or maybe it was a second breakfast - at a small & friendly tearooms on the main street. I thought for a moment we'd be washing the dishes, as they didn't take credit cards(!) but we managed to scratch together enough cash.
Coming from New Zealand, which seems to have benefited from automated banking systems from the 1970s, I'm so used to debit & credit cards being accepted everywhere that it still surprises me when I end up in a small cafe, or a taxi or a corner store, where only cash is accepted, and I have to find a different provider when I least wanted to.
