We're back home now, after a week in Kaikoura and ... less civilized places. Like the "room with a view" below, in the connectionless desert we found ourselves in. Truly, it would have been delightful to visit except for about 20mm of rainfall each day.
I think that 20mm of rainfall is probably not at all unusual though, from looking at this photo of classic temperate rainforest.
