* Wellington Provincial Centennial Memorial*

I love this monument (and Museum) on the Petone foreshore, which is unfortunately quite cumbersome to get to due to the modern city being designed for cars rather than people.  The lovely art deco elements are nicely relieved by the cabbage trees.

It's interesting that we see so many of those cabbage trees in Ireland also (where they're called "palm trees", or sometimes "Cordylines", and they are the same NZ-originated species).  We see a lot of NZ flax in Ireland also, which is very different to the Irish flax, and the source of linen fibre, so those get called Phormiums).

If you happen to have some a-capella singers with you when you visit then I can also recommend the foyer for an impromptu performance.
