Clonmacnoise

We spent a lot of the time driving to Clonmacnoise today trying to work out how one might say that.  Is it clon-mac-noysh? Clon-mac-noyce? Or perhaps, as the GPS was suggesting: clon-mac-no-eyes?  A little research when we got home today informs me that it actually is "clon-mac-noise", which is as straightforward as it is unexpected!

It is a ruined monastery, and is dotted with random graves - so much so that you do start to wonder where these people planted their vegetables.

I couldn't find any great viewpoints for photographing the whole site - perhaps because I didn't have the fancy kit like +Ciarán May Birdseye Kite Photography!

Instead I have to settle for this detailed entranceway which looks to me as if it leads through the arch into a whole different world!  I decided not to risk going through it in case I couldn't get back.

Apparently this site gets really busy in summer, and it was quite busy today too so it was surprising that there was only room for about 10 very friendly people in the on-site cafe, necessitating a drive to Athlone for a nice lunch afterwards before heading back to Dublin so I can go oncall tomorrow.
