Castletown Chandeliers
Most OPW properties have next to nothing of their original furniture, but in the case of Castletown House they have at least managed to retain these magnificent chandeliers.
To a modern eye they might perhaps look a bit garish as we have become overused to imitations of these sorts of things, but these are the real deal: hand-crafted Murano Glass, originally shipped from Venice to Castletown packed in butter (the safest way). They've then been retrofitted last century for electricity so they can continue to light the long gallery.
