So how many books these days could be described as having "sexually explicit content, drug use and the use of a slang term for female genitalia"?

The author has some excellent points, and it is truly a shame to see NZ film and literature review board taking such extreme measures.

On the other hand I guess there'll be a lot more kids reading it now!  I remember there was a book banned back when I was about 14 and I went to great lengths to get my hands on it...
